Comic Book Launch
Join us for an evening dedicated to the power of storytelling in raising awareness on biodiversity conservation. We will celebrate the publishing of a comic book, which features stories exploring the topic of biodiversity conservation. This unique publication emerged from the Erasmus Plus Project Bioyoutoon (an Erasmus funded initiative), and features the creative work of talented local artists.
Film Screening
The event will also include a screening of a short documentary on Vienna’s Biodiversity Corridor (Wiener Biodiversitätskorridor). This film highlights the transformative impact of citizens in fostering urban biodiversity, offering practical insights into how individuals can create vital habitats for plants and insects within the urban landscape.
Panel Discussion
Following the screening, a panel of experts will lead a discussion on biodiversity conservation and strategies for raising awareness on this crucial topic.The conversation will also cover the important work being done in National Parks and provide insights into the activities of Precious Plastik Vienna.
Enjoy complimentary snacks and drinks as you connect with like-minded individuals and explore ways to make a difference.

A brief overview of the two workshops in Iznik and in Vienna (with photos).
A brief presentation of the toolkit as a resource.
19:45: Introduction of webtoons (available online)

Host and moderator:
Mary Sarsam: Mary is an artist, researcher, and project manager specializing in video and sound works. She is actively involved in research collectives focused on ecology, spatial justice, and agriculture. With a background in sociology and a Master’s degree focusing on Ecological Art and Design, her work bridges social science and creative practices.
Panelists:
Dominic Sylvestre: Dominic is a ranger at the Nationalpark Neusiedler See – Seewinkel, located along the Austrian- Hungarian border. He plays an active role in raisin awareness on biodiversity during his workshops with tourists and students. He’s fascinated by relationships between different species, bird migration and of course: Bees. He’s also one of the illustrators for the bioyoutoon project and cotributed to the webtoons with his story on Danny the Wool Carder Bee.
Maria Lindhuber, Med : Maria is a biology teacher, currently finishing a second master in conservation and biodiversity management. She’s also begun a PhD on urban pollinators in autumn 2024
Raphael Volkmer: Raphael is one of the founders of Prescious Plastic Vienna and the mastermind and one of the co-founders of FANTOPLAST. FANTOPLAST and Precious Plastic Vienna share knowledge and work together on a commitment to open and hands-on education in the complex world of plastic recycling.
