Cultural and Historical awareness for active citizenship

KA210-YOU-Small-scale partnerships in youth

The “Cultural and Historical Awareness for Active Citizenship” (CHAC) project aims to initiate a community engagement process of active citizenship.

The project will be introducing public and oral history methodologies to the local youth through training and workshops.

The youth will then use their learned skill-set to engage with local community members and  conduce local history research. They will interview community members, collect stories, visual materials, historical documents etc. on their neighborhoods, cities or areas.

The gathered material will then be curated and exhibited as part of an exhibition.

As X-arts, we’re excited to be project coordinator for this Erasmus+ project.

The project aims to foster a social inclusion process for both youth and local communities, deepening their involvement in cultural activities and their knowledge about the history of the places they live in. Their sense of community and active citizenship will be engaged by exploring social issues other inhabitants face and changes that have occurred over time.

Youth educators will be offered tools to sensitize youngsters about project topics and start a social inclusion process through culture and storytelling, fostering their sense of belonging to their communities.

What will we achieve?

The project is a two year cooperation, aiming to achieve the following goals:

  • Creating a guide and training format for educators based on a national research and an international study report.
  • Creating a 10-day workshop for 18-30-year-olds led by 2 educators
  • Introducing public and oral history methodologies to the local youth, engage the participants with local community members and encourage participants to collect documentation during the workshop.
  • Creating an oral archive that would be handed to local libraries for citizen access
  • Creating an online archive and digital repository with the methodologies and results from each workshop
  • Curating an exhibition showing the results from each workshop in each of the partnering countries.

Our partners

Our partners in this project will be NGO Nest (Germany) and Edu-Labs (Italy). We’re looking forward to collaborating on this exciting and engaging project.
